History of Grama Panchayat
Meenja Grama Panchayat, located in Kasaragod District, Kerala, was formerly part of the South Canara District before 1956 and was officially constituted in 1962 with Meeyapadavu as its headquarters. The Panchayat derives its name from the influential Bunt family of Hinna Bhandari and has a rich history in education, culture, and rural development. Kannada-medium schools, Yakshagana, drama, libraries, and various cultural organizations have played a major role in preserving the region’s heritage and social harmony. Connected by the important Meenja–Manjeshwar road, the Panchayat supports agriculture and trade while contributing to the cultural and historical significance of Kasaragod, Kerala’s northernmost district.
